In our timeline, King Edward VIII, widely rumoured to harbour right-wing sympathies, abdicates in 1936 in order to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson. In the VBCW timeline, he doesn't.
What follows is a constitutional crisis and the collapse of the United Kingdom as we know it, as the British Isles are plunged into a bloody and multifaceted, yet curiously sporting and whimsical, civil war.
